Malta is a small island to travel around with generally quiet roads, except leading to Valletta and more densely populated areas. Parking is a problem in Valletta so it's best to catch a bus for a trip there. It's also a very small city - easily crossed on foot. A toll is exacted on cars entering Valletta using a Controlled Vehicular Access (CVA) system which reads car registration plates and bills the owner. It's similar to the congestion charge applied in many other cities including London. A Park and Ride system exists in Blata l-Bajda where you can park your car and catch the bus. Buses are frequent, every few minutes, and stop in Freedom Square in Valletta. There s a car park beside the bus station just outside the Main Gate.
